Georgia Hope Scholarship Running Out Of Money
The nations flagship state guarantee merit scholarship is Georgia”s Hope Scholarship. It has sent clear signals to secondary school students about meeting course and grade point standards. But now it is threatened.
Losing HOPE
A popular scholarship that has become a near-birthright for Georgians is going broke, and state officials acknowledge they’ll have to cut participation or reduce benefits if it is to survive. Since its introduction in 1993, the HOPE Scholarship program has seen an explosion of participation and spawned similar merit-based programs in other states. But with the lottery funds that support the program slowing in growth, and an uptick in the number of students participating, HOPE’s reserves are being drained and could be completely tapped by the close of 2013. Have there been any updates to the HOPE scholarship program since this posting? This would be a true shame if this were to go away. It seems like its getting harder and harder to get into college nowadays.
I think there is a final bill which raises the academic threshold to get Hope and will lead to higher income families getting more of a reduced pot of money.
Thanks for the post. Different scholarship programs will have different requirements. Many scholarships look at more than just the academic record of the applicants, they often like to see a well rounded life that includes some volunteer work or community activism.
This is really bad news. It’s really getting harder to go to college and the only HOPE of those who are having difficulties is drifting away. In my opinion.. it is okay of they would cut some benefits just to continue the program. It is better to have little than to have nothing at all. I hope these issues would be resolved. It’s getting worse day by day.

Sounds like pretty bad management to me. They should have seen this coming. Now the kids are the ones loosing out because the scholarship management foolishly thought they could provide for everyone.
Sir i m from India and recently i have Complete my M.Pharm in Indian University . Any Scholarship proggrame Running for Ph.D
This is really sad news . There has to some really bad management and the people involved have killed the hopes of many young students who have been looking forward to this. So this is sad that this great program will come to end due to lack of funds.
Not good for the reputation of Georgia the government must take more direct approach and action in the education.
