Largest Percent In History Go To College After High School

The US Department of education reported that over 70% of high school graduates went from high school  directly to college. This increase was caused by the recession, but the percent has been at 67% in recent years. After 18 months from graduation about 73% go to college. So the problem is less one of access and more about completion.

As more students with less academic preparation go to college  then completion rates will go down. But 4 year  access colleges like Cal State are diverting more students to community colleges, and cut enrollment by 40,000. So some college completion rates at 4 year schools will probably increase as they become more selective. But 2 year college rates might decline or go up depending on the mix of students they get from 4 year college overflow.
