Why Do First Year College Students Drop Out?

A recent study released by the National Bureau of Economic Research uses a new, dynamic model to understand factors other than financial constraints that contribute to a student’s decision to drop out of college. NBER’s study attributes 45% of the dropout that occurs in the first year of college to what students learn about their academic performance.
